Separated parents
Working with children whose parents are separated or separating is one of the more complex areas of private practice. Consent is rarely straightforward, parental roles are often contested, and without clear processes in place, clinicians can find themselves managing conflict rather than delivering care.
The Separate Parents module provides a structured approach to navigating separated family dynamics from the point of intake. The documents work together to establish clear expectations with parents, support informed consent processes, and give clinicians a consistent, defensible framework for managing some of the most challenging relational dynamics in private practice.
Included resources:
- Separated Parents Policy and Procedure
- Separated Parents Information Sheet (Rights and Responsibilities)
- Separated Parents Agreement
These resources align with the AHPRA Code of Conduct (2025 release), APS Code of Ethics, and APS Private Practice Management Standards. Together, they offer a practical foundation for managing separated parent matters consistently, reducing organisational risk, and keeping clinical focus where it belongs — on the best interests of the child.
